Amplitude vs Google Analytics: Product Behavior or Ad Measurement

Amplitude is a product analytics suite. Its free plan already bundles event analytics, Session Replay synced to the event stream, feature flags, web experiments and audience activation, with unlimited seats on every plan. Google Analytics measures websites and apps for marketing teams, and its strength is the Google stack: linked Google Ads accounts import key events as conversions, receive remarketing audiences and show cost data in reports, while BigQuery export hands raw events to a warehouse. Both tools cover funnels, paths and cohorts, so the real split is experiments and replay on one side and ad measurement on the other.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      Is Google Analytics free?⌄

The standard edition of Google Analytics is free. Analytics 360 is the enterprise edition and adds options such as longer event-data retention of 26, 38 or 50 months. Standard properties choose 2 or 14 months, a setting that applies to explorations and funnel reports but not to standard aggregated reports.

What does Amplitude's free plan include?⌄

Amplitude's Free plan covers 2 million events a month with no time limit and no credit card. It includes Analytics, 10,000 monthly Session Replay sessions, feature flags, web experimentation, guides and surveys, and activation, all with unlimited seats. Plus raises the event ceiling and adds two-year retention, heatmaps and custom events.

How does Google Analytics get raw data into BigQuery?⌄

BigQuery export writes one table per day of events, and late-arriving data updates those tables for up to three days. Streaming export adds intraday tables during the day, but projects on the no-cost BigQuery sandbox can't use it. Exported rows include device, geography, traffic source, ecommerce and custom parameters.

Can Amplitude audiences be used in ad platforms?⌄

Yes. Amplitude's destination catalog sends cohorts and events to ad networks including Google Ads and Meta, to messaging tools such as Braze and Iterable, and to warehouses like Snowflake and BigQuery. That lets a product team build a behavioral cohort once and reuse it for campaigns.
