HeyGen vs Synthesia: Video Agent or Training-Ready Avatars
HeyGen and Synthesia both turn a script into a presenter-led video with an AI avatar, and both have a free plan, but they lean toward different buyers. HeyGen adds Video Agent, which drafts a script from a prompt, picks visuals and assembles B-roll, plus translation that clones the speaker's voice and syncs lips. Synthesia's paid tiers are shaped around company training: in-video quizzes and branching, SCORM export, brand kits and SSO, much of it on Enterprise. HeyGen puts SCORM export and SAML/SSO on its Business plan, below its Enterprise tier.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I translate a video that wasn't made in the tool?⌄
Yes, with both. HeyGen accepts an uploaded file or YouTube link, translates into up to 10 languages at once, clones the original voice and lets you edit the translated script before finishing. Synthesia takes MP4, MOV or WEBM files or a YouTube link, detects the source language and publishes all versions behind one smart link.
Which one exports SCORM packages for an LMS?⌄
Both, on different plans. HeyGen includes SCORM export on Business and Enterprise. Synthesia offers it on Enterprise only, exports SCORM 1.2 or 2004 with a completion threshold you choose, reports quiz scores from interactive videos, and refreshes the package automatically when you swap in a new video version.
What can I make on the free plans?⌄
HeyGen's free plan covers a few short videos each month, capped at one minute each and watermarked, with one custom avatar. Synthesia's Basic plan lists 10 minutes of video creation or dubbing and nine stock avatars for one editor. Both are enough to judge avatar quality before paying.
Is HeyGen's interactive avatar part of its normal plans?⌄
No. HeyGen's help center says LiveAvatar, the production version of its earlier Interactive Avatar beta, runs on a separate platform at liveavatar.com with its own credit system. You sign in with HeyGen credentials, but avatars made in HeyGen are not cross-compatible with LiveAvatar.
