What Is Zoom?

Zoom pairs Zoom Workplace for meetings and chat with Zoom Webinars, an add-on assigned to a licensed user for presenting to registered audiences. Webinars include registration, chat, polls, Q&A, reactions, raise hand, panelists and recording, and attendee capacity depends on the license. Webinars Plus and Zoom Events licenses unlock premium features: a production studio, a backstage area for speakers, breakout rooms, resource links, RTMP streaming to YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook, and simulive sessions that play a cloud recording at the scheduled time and can switch to live afterward. Recordings can become a searchable library with AI-generated chapters and highlights, and dashboards report attendance and engagement. Webinar data connects to HubSpot, Salesforce and Marketo so sales teams can see which events fed the pipeline. Zoom runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and the web, with AI Companion built into the platform.

Best for: Marketing teams that already meet on Zoom and want webinars, simulive replays and CRM-connected attendance data on the same account.

Zoom Webinars separates attendees from hosts and panelists, and the practice-session state lets speakers rehearse without admitting the audience. A host explicitly starts the webinar from that private state before registrants can enter. Its reporting and registration flow differ from ordinary Zoom Meetings, particularly for marketing teams that need participant identities and event-level engagement data.

    Zoom Pros and Cons

    What We Like

    • Simulive webinars start on schedule from a recording, with live chat and Q&A during playback.
    • RTMP streaming sends a webinar to YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook simultaneously.
    • Attendance and engagement data connects to HubSpot, Salesforce and Marketo.
    • Backstage gives panelists a private space to prepare before going live.
    • Desktop apps cover Windows, macOS and Linux, plus iOS and Android.

    What Could Be Better

    • Webinars are a paid add-on that must be assigned to an already licensed user.
    • Simulive, backstage, breakout rooms and RTMP need Webinars Plus or a Zoom Events license.
    • Hosts can't join a simulive webinar through the web client.
    • Interpretation and attendee speaking permissions aren't available in simulive sessions.
