What Is Google Meet?

Google Meet is Google's video meeting service for browser and mobile calls, with meetings that can be launched directly or scheduled through Google Workspace. Depending on the Workspace edition, hosts can use recording to Google Drive, breakout rooms, polls, Q&A, transcription, attendance tracking and Gemini-assisted notes. Meet can also be opened from Docs, Sheets and Slides while collaborators work on files.

Best for: Google Workspace teams that want video meetings tightly connected to Calendar, Drive, Gmail, and collaborative documents.

Meet is bundled with Google Workspace, so most teams pay for it as part of a per-user Workspace plan. Free accounts limit group calls to 60 minutes, while paid plans allow calls of up to 24 hours. Recording is not included on Business Starter and starts on Business Standard, and attendance tracking needs Business Plus or higher, so plan choice depends on which meeting records you need to keep.
