What Is Vercel?

Vercel hosts and runs web applications with Git-connected deployments, preview environments, server-side Functions, CDN delivery, and Fluid Compute. Every non-production branch or pull request can receive its own preview URL, while Functions scale server-side code without server management. The Marketplace extends projects with databases, CMS, commerce, authentication, AI, observability, and other services.

Best for: Web product teams deploying modern frontend and full-stack applications from Git workflows.

Vercel distinguishes Local, Preview and Production environments, with automatic previews for non-production branch commits and pull requests. Teams can inspect a finished preview and explicitly promote it to production instead of rebuilding from scratch. Custom named environments beyond the defaults depend on higher-tier subscriptions, a consideration for organizations with separate QA and staging stages.
