What Is Figma?
Figma is a collaborative design platform that runs in the browser, with desktop apps for macOS and Windows that carry the same features. Figma Design covers interface layout, components, variables and interactive prototypes; FigJam handles whiteboarding and workshops; Figma Slides builds presentations inside the same workspace. Dev Mode gives developers an inspect panel with code snippets in several languages, a view of frames marked ready for development, annotations and a VS Code extension. Code Connect, on Organization and Enterprise, swaps generated snippets for a team's real component code. Seats are split by role: a Full seat reaches every product, a Dev seat adds Dev Mode, and a Collab seat covers FigJam, Slides and commenting on design files. Plans run Starter, Professional, Organization and Enterprise, serving product designers, design-system teams and the engineers who build from their files.
Best for: Product design and engineering teams that share one design system and hand finished screens to developers inside the same file.
Figma's component libraries and multiplayer editing support the iterative handoff between product design and engineering. Seat types, developer inspection permissions and organization-wide library controls differ by plan, making workspace design as important as the drawing features themselves when multiple departments collaborate.
