What Is Zendesk?

Zendesk centers on a shared ticketing workspace with routing, automations, triggers and canned responses, and its Suite plans add messaging and live chat, voice, a help center knowledge base and omnichannel routing. Its AI agents answer across messaging, email, voice and social channels, draw on help center articles, Google Drive and PDFs, and can run multi-step procedures described in plain language; Zendesk says they handle 80 languages. AI agents are billed by automated resolutions, with an allowance included in each plan. Suite Professional adds skills-based routing, IVR phone trees, help centers in 40+ languages, light agents and Admin Copilot. Suite Enterprise adds intelligent triage, approval workflows, a sandbox, custom agent roles and HIPAA enablement. Copilot for agents and Workforce Management, which forecasts staffing and builds schedules, are sold as add-ons. Integrations include Slack, Salesforce, Shopify, Jira and Microsoft Teams.

Best for: Mid-size and enterprise support teams running email, chat, phone and self-service from one queue who want AI agents billed by resolution.

Zendesk ties its ticketing backbone to messaging, help content and AI workflows, but edition and add-on choices determine how much automation is included. A service organization should map required channels, governance and reporting before selecting a suite, instead of assuming every deployment has the same service desk features.
