What Is Trello?
Trello is Atlassian's board-based work manager. Work is laid out as boards of lists and cards, and each card can carry checklists, due dates, attachments, members and Custom Fields. Butler automation runs rules, card and board buttons and scheduled commands, with monthly quotas set by plan: 250 runs on Free, 1,000 on Standard, and unlimited runs on Premium and Enterprise within operation caps. Power-Ups link boards to Slack, Google Drive, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, Dropbox, GitHub and Salesforce. The Free plan covers up to 10 collaborators and 10 boards per Workspace with a 10MB file limit. Standard removes the board cap and adds Custom Fields, unlimited Power-Ups and 250MB files, and Premium adds Calendar, Timeline, Table, Dashboard and Map views with admin controls and Workspace templates. Enterprise adds Atlassian Guard Standard and organization-wide permissions. Trello runs in the browser, as desktop apps for Windows and macOS and on iOS and Android, and offers a public API.
Best for: Small and midsize teams that want a visual kanban board for tasks and content, with light automation and links to Atlassian and Google tools.
Trello's cards can move through customized lists, keeping activity, comments and attachments with each piece of work. Automation can react to board events such as moving or assigning a card, avoiding some manual housekeeping. As work expands across many boards, however, teams should define ownership and naming conventions instead of expecting a single board to provide full portfolio management.
